If it were me, I'd probably unpick all the old elastic ever so carefully with a really nice, sharp seam ripper, nice and pointy so you can be careful not to snag any of the hemp.

Another option would be to sew wider elastic over the shot elastic on the outside where the elastic won't touch baby. Most dipes use a 1/4 inch elastic, so you could use 3/8 inch wide and sew right over top of the old. You'd need a wider elastic so it could pull a bit tighter to take up the slack of that extra old elastic layer. It wouldn't be pretty, but it would function.

I also heard once, someone sewed new elastic to the inside of the diaper right on top of the old, and then stitched a long narrow bit of microfleece over it to hide it from baby, but that seems like you'd have a lot of layers right there by the leg.

I've used this method for my pocket diapers with great success but I have a few hemp fitteds where the elastic is already zig-zagged on all layers. I am afraid of pulling out the stitches and getting holes in the fabric. I've tried sewing additional elastic next to the shot elastic but then the fit was not exactly the same. Can anyone think of remedies to this situation so I can fix these dipes? Thank you.
