Mama Cloth

This is an embarrassing personal question...but if anyone can help, it will probably be you ladies!

I just had my first menstrual cycle in a long time (none while pregnant and nursing...still nursing a 9 month old, but it just came for some reason...weird), and all I had in the house were pads.  After the 2nd or 3rd day, I had been rubbed raw or irritated from front to back.  This happened while wearing pads during post partum as well.  I don't remember if this happened 2 1/2 years ago during post partum with my first son, but it's never happened prior to having babies .  Granted I normally used tampons, but never remember pads (in my much younger years) every causing me a problem, so I don't necessarily think I'm allergic to them, but they are definitely giving me problems.

That said, my question is, does anyone have any similar experience and can you tell me if the cloths did the same thing?  I mean, I've heard if you are allergic to pads, then use cloth...but if I'm not allergic, will the cloths irritate, too?  I'm thinking since it's not made of plastic, basically, that it won't irritate, but I don't want to go through the time and trouble of making several if they are going to cause a problem.  Thanks, y'all, I just wanted some advice before I get started making some!

I haven't had a big problem with disposable pads being irritating but the cloth kinds are much less irritating IMO.  Hope someone else has more info for you.

I was irritated by disposables.. that is why I started trying cloth liners.. They didnt irritate me at all so I tried cloth for PP and wished I had made more.  I am gradually working on getting more regular cloth pads made so I dont have to use disposables at all.  I wasnt irritated by the cloth ones at all!  I'm not planning to go back to the disposables.  Smiley

I haven't used them, nor have I been irritated by the disposables, but I did have a thought:  if, for some reason you are reacting to the chemicals in the disposables, I would consider using organic bamboo velour for the top of a cloth pad.  I know most people use fleece, but as it's not natural, it might also cause you some discomfort.  Just a thought!!  I'm working on making the Very Baby post-partum pads to sell, and I plan on offering both options (fleece and OBV).  And, if I can ever get myself to stop making soap  laughing, I'm going to line my little one's diapers with OBV.  Then I'm going to roll around in the leftover fabric, 'cause it's soooooooo soft and yummy!!!    blush  OK, not really, but it IS that luxurious!!
