Good mama cloth pattern?
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:48:39 AM »

Okay, I am sure that someone else has asked this and I took a quick glance and didn't see a thread right away, so here we go.  My little guy is now almost 6 months and I would like to anticipate the return of Aunt Flo with the sewing of some mama cloth.  Now I see there is the postpartum pad pattern, but has anyone tried the Kiki pad pattern?  Any other recommendations?  My stockpile of diapers is almost finished and my dissertation writing is at a standstill, so I'd appreciate the distraction/procrastination/what have you.

I'd be really appreciative of opinions about those that you've sewed and tried personally.

Thanks!

I haven't tried the Kiki yet, though it looks nice.  I have used this one http://verybaby.com/ecom-prodshow/personal-things.html  and like it a lot, it has lots of varieties to try.

That's settled.  I'm going to buy the kiki pattern and make some, although I still don't have a reason to use them yet.  I wish the babymoon pattern had been around when I had my son, but I got so overwhelmed with my PhD exams, I didn't do much sewing during my maternity leave (otherwise known as the month I waited for my overdue baby to arrive).

I'll let you guys know how the sewing goes!

Any word on how that KiKi pads pattern turned out? I'm 4 months post partum and nervous Aunt Flo is going to arrive soon, despite my round the clock breastfeeding. Better covered then not right? Grin

I have used the babymoon pattern for PP and made a few of the kikipads for comparison.  I liked them both. Smiley  For regular pads I use the kikipads pattern since it comes in the regular size.. um.. ya.. that sounded redundant... sorry...  you know what I mean... I have to get making some more.. only 2 months PP here so I have some time. Smiley  I think...

Anyhow.. all that to say I like both patterns... laughing

Thanks Cristy!  I was meaning to try it out, but then I realized that I had all this prep work to do for the courses I'm teaching and didn't get around to.  Somehow I still haven't seen the return of my old pal, but at 7.5 months postpartum, it's bound to happen anytime.  I did make 2 or 3 regular sized pads from a pattern I found free online, but I don't know if I like the logic of it.  The mama cloth had two sections, one was the wing section, the other the center section to add more absorbency.  The weird thing was that you sewed all the way around both of them with right sides together and then had to cut an opening in the fabric.  I mean, you don't see it in the end product because those two holes are hidden, but it just seemed like there had to be a different way to do it.

Maybe I will try the kiki pattern, as soon as I am done teaching this course...

It sounds like I may be unusually blessed. The whole almost-14 months that I was nursing my first, Aunt Flo didn't visit me. Even though for the last month or two I breastfed only twice a day or less (and did no pumping or anything). This time, with a 13-month-old nursing 3 to 4 times a day I still haven't seen Aunt Flo. I had not much bleeding post-partum either, because both labors resulted in c-sections.  Cry  My contractions weren't very strong or effective and I only dilated to 5 cm.

Well, it's a good thing that mine hasn't come yet because I have only made 2 pads.  Ha!  It doesn't seem like Flo is going to return soon.  Who knows, maybe she will stay away until we start trying for the next one Wink
