100% Polyester knit laminated with 1 mil waterproof, non-breathable backing. Approx. 58" wide.

"PUL" is an acronym for Polyurethane Laminate fabric. Some say it as "pull" others spell out the letters P-U-L. This popular diapering fabric is actually a fabric developed for the medical industry. It is soft, pliable, and waterproof. It can withstand high temperatures and a lot of use.

PUL can be used in waterproof diaper covers and as the outer layer in All in One diapers. You can also use PUL for baby bibs, art smocks and aprons, bed wetter sheets, training pants, mattress pads, and washable feminine products.

I have been very rough with the products I have made out of our PUL fabric, I wash our diapers and covers on hot and dry on hot. I have covers and All in One diapers that are over three years old that still perform wonderfully. These diapers have been washed, dried and used two times per week for over three years. As you can see, this PUL fabric is very durable.

PUL FAQ:

Q: What type of PUL should I get for AIOs or Covers?
A: PUL preference is just that, a preference. You may need to do some experimenting to find out what works best for you. All are waterproof. 2mil might be more leakproof for overnight or long car rides but is also more stiff and plasticy.

Q: How many covers can I get out of one yard of PUL?
A: It depends on what pattern you're using, what size you are making and how well you sandwich your pattern pieces together. I can get around 8 smalls or 4 or 5 larges from one yard.

Q: Does this PUL have additional "DWR" (Durable Water Resistance) applied to the knit side?
A: No. We don't like adding any chemicals to items we don't feel are necessary. If you find your PUL needs beefing up waterproof-wise, feel free to add it yourself, with our Nikwax products.

Q: Which side is the right side?
A: The knit side faces out, the shiny side faces in towards the wet diaper or wet soaker pad. Unless you want to layer a print on the outside, then you can face the shiny side toward the print and the soft side towards the diaper. Some patterns call for the knit side to face the baby. This works well with an outer print covering the shiny laminate side.

Q: Can I layer a knit or woven fabric on top of the plain PUL to make a cute cover or AIO?
A: Yes. We recommend serging the edges, or binding with Fold over Elastic binding or strips of microfleece or PUL (no need to cut on the bias) for a leak proof cover or AIO.

Q: Does it matter which way the stretch goes? How do I tell which way is the grain?
A: If you can't tell, it doesn't really matter too much. PUL seems to stretch pretty equally both ways. If you can't see the grainline in the knit, don't worry about it. The laminate will keep it from stretching too much out of shape if you accidentally cut your cover on the bias.
